Advertisers in the American Advertising Federation’s Fifth District (Ohio, Kentucky, and West Virginia) piled up 39 Gold Awards. Each Gold will have a shot at a national ADDY® Award in June at the National AAF ADDY® show – the world’s largest advertising creative show. Four of the Gold Awards went to college students. 101 Silver ADDYs® were also awarded, 14 of which went to college students.
“The judges were very impressed with the overall quality of the work and we were encouraged by fantastic entry numbers despite the economic environment we’re experiencing,” said Fifth District Governor Barry Shawgo of Sales Development Services, a Columbus-based market research firm for media and advertising agencies. “That there was this much work entered and awarded demonstrates the strength of our regional advertising community,” added John McCafferty, President of Louisville agency McCafferty and Company, who served as this year’s District ADDY® Chairman.
The three judges, by rule not from the district, included Rick Baptist, Senior Creative at The Tombras Group in Knoxville, John Meyer, Senior Art Director with Rodgers Townsend in St. Louis and Susie Norris, who is the owner of Orange Apple Branding Boutique in Knoxville. They judged over 525 entries in more than 75 categories from nine cities in the three-state area. All of the entries had already won awards on the local level.
